Pentad has been described as a rare example of innovation in business park design by the Architects Journal. Sitting opposite Gyle Crescent on the site of a former Bass Brewers depot, this scheme has detailed consent for 185,000 sq ft of office space provided in 5 main buildings arranged around a central courtyard and a hub building providing retail facilities.
Phase 1, which comprised the hub building and the first of the main office buildings was completed in 2003. The provision of retail facilities within the hub is an essential element of the overall scheme and provides facilities not only for the other buildings in Pentad but also the wider South Gyle area. The retail units have been let to a coffee shop, hairdressers, restaurant and newsagents and the office building is now the headquarters of the Lothian Valuation Joint Board.
Work on the second phase is underway and will provide a further 30,000 sq ft of Grade A space which will be designed to the highest environmental standards (BREEAM excellent) and it is anticipated construction will commence in Summer 2008.
