Steve Cardownie
Steve Cardownie has been a Councillor in Edinburgh since 1988. He is Leader of the Scottish National Party on the Council and represents the Forth Ward. In May 2007 he was elected Deputy Leader of the Council.
He was re-appointed as Edinburgh’s Festivals and Events Champion, a position he formerly held from 2001 until 2005. Steve is committed to the arts and holds various Directorships including the Edinburgh International Festival, Edinburgh Film Festival, Edinburgh Jazz Festival and the Edinburgh Mela. He is a Director of Waterfront Edinburgh Ltd, the EDI Group and one of Edinburgh’s representatives on the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities.
Steve was a Trade Union full time elected official with the Scottish Office for 17 years and for 5 years a National Executive Committee Member. He is an Employment Tribunal Member, a position he has held since 1981.
His leisure pursuits include football, travelling, theatre and hill walking.
